CONTENT: The Awareness portion of this program is designed as the first phase and Prerequisite for the Camden County College’s RETC Confined Space Training Series. This series covers Awareness, Operations, and Technician Level programs along with Technical Skills enhancement classes. The objective is to provide the students with an Awareness training levels for the Confined Space environment, as per NFPA and Confined Space Industry Standards. The Operations portion of this program is designed as the second phase of the Camden County College’s RETC Confined Space Training Series. This section, of the series, covers the hands-on operations of basic and intermediate Confined Space rescue skills. The Operations program covers the requirements of NFPA along with current Confined Space Industry Standards.

CONTENT: This NEW program will consist of online lectures, videos, assignments and on-site practical evolutions to meet the competencies for certification in the State of New Jersey and Pro Board Certification. This course will meet the N.F.P.A. 1001 standard for level I certification. This course is designed to instruct the students on the subjects / modules required for Fire Fighter I certification. Attending students will be required to pass a Pro-Board written examination, and tested on all practical skills to receive their accreditation.

REQUIREMENT(S): Students will need to bring their own lunch, (2) accountability tags, approved PPE & SCBA w/ spare cylinder each day.

CONTENT: This course has been developed to provide the new (or) seasoned pump operator with a refresher on the knowledge and skills to complete the varied tasks necessary on an emergency scene. Modules will review the different types of hose, nozzles and appliances that are used currently in the fire service. Students will learn the different pressures, equipment use and the comparisons associated with each type of equipment. Students will learn about flow meters and the newer technology available on how to test the pressure of pre-connect lines of various sizes.The class will continue with a field exercise utilizing the principles reviewed in the classroom.

CONTENT: Students will examine additional modules in the Incident Management System. Various topics will be covered to include personnel staffing levels, organizing events, and what a resource manager responsibilities are. In addition, subjects on staffing positions and span of control will be review, and the required documentation for all major incidents. Attending students will also be required to work in group sessions being assigned emergency incidents to command in table-top scenarios.

REQUIREMENT(S): Students MUST provide documentation that they completed I-200 (In-Person) after the 2019 update or they will NOT BE ELIGIBLE for the course.

INVESTIGATING RESIDENTIAL ALARM SYSTEMS (Dobleman)

CONTENT: This course is intended to educate firefighters and company officers in the installation and operation of typical smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in residential properties.
Construction code requirements and operations will be reviewed. Students will be instructed on techniques to locate and identify defective alarms in a multi-alarm system. Students will also be instructed on methods which can be used to assure that adequate protection is restored to a property prior to the departure of the fire department.

CONTENT: A large area search is a search where a team is entering a fire building to do a primary or secondary search under arduous conditions because of a known life hazard. This type of search is used in a building that does not require a wide-open-area search or a patterned search. Instead, this type of search uses the rope to secure and control an exit point from the fire area. Building types include office buildings, apartment houses with long hallways or stores with aisles that have stock and merchandise in place. This class will teach and demonstrate different ways on how to effectively accomplish a large area search task.

REQUIREMENT(S): Full PPE, SCBA and Spare cylinder are required.

CONTENT: This 40 hour program will consist of ONLINE Coursework/Homework based on NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.Course work will be a combination self paced home study utilizing the Jones and Bartlett online classroom and In-Person Lectures and Job Performance Requirement (JPR) sessions over the duration of the program.
JPR sessions allow for student/instructor interaction and coaching while completing tasks such as: incident size up and initial orders, post incident analysis, evaluating and addressing safety issues, investigating accidents, handling personnel issues such as performance evaluations, discipline issues and recommending employee actions.
The course coordinator and/or instructors will schedule regular, non mandatory virtual check in conferences during the duration of the course. Pro Board testing will be scheduled at the conclusion of the course.The curriculum will cover challenges, opportunities, effective communication, roles within an organization, management, leadership, safety, construction, fire investigation, training, planning and more.

CONTENT: Three main types of residential utilities are electric, gas and water. Each type of utility has
several appliances that branch off each service. More and more we are responding to some
type of residential emergency. This class will give the student a basic understanding on a wide variety of each utility and appliance associated to it. The student will also learn on how to mitigate and or secure power to these appliances.

CONTENT: When there is a MAYDAY transmitted on the fire ground a trained group of members known as the RIC team will deploy to extricate that down firefighter in a coordinated effort. The primary purpose and duty for one or more RIC Teams being deployed on the fire ground should be to provide a dedicated and specialized team of fire fighters (a minimum of at least 4 per crew) ready to rescue fire fighters who become lost, trapped, injured, disoriented, have a medical problem, or any other reason for immediate rescue or other assistance.
This awareness class will give you the information needed to have the understanding on the basic task that the RIC teams provide and the understanding of how they operator. This is pre - requisite to RIC Operations class.

CONTENT: This (24) hour hands-on program will consist of students placed into groups and given assignments of various rescue scenarios. Students will need to remove the fallen firefighter from a simulated problem, with emphasis on personal safety. Various techniques of rescue operations will be presented to the students during the exterior evolutions.

TRUCK COMPANY OPERATIONS (Coppola)

CONTENT: This program will consist of a classroom lecture and "Hands-On" sessions reviewing the fundamentals of basic truck company operations. Topics to be covered include, apparatus placement, aerial operations, and the tactical considerations personnel face at each incident. Students will be given practical exercises utilizing ground ladders, the aerial device and the tools associated with standard operations.

REQUIREMENT(S): Students will need to bring their own lunch and wear approved PPE & SCBA w/ spare cylinder. Students MUST be in good physical condition.

VEHICLE EXTRICATION I

CONTENT: This 19 hour program will consist of a lecture on the role of the first responder, EMS and various tools used in extrication. Students will review the principles of removing victims from wrecks and how vehicle construction is changing, making the process more difficult. The Sunday session will consist of hands on field evolutions using various rescue tools giving the participant the skills and knowledge needed to operate safely.

CONTENT: This class is great for anyone new in the fire service to obtain a better understanding on how to read smoke based on a few core concepts. Reading smoke is critical to ensure there is good decision making. This skill is as important to the fire attack team at the front door as it is to the incident commander (IC) at the command post. This class will provide classroom lecture with a live fire demonstration to bring it all together.
